An introduction to this website.

I’ve been sitting on this website for a while now and haven’t really done anything with it. There’s always been an itch in the back of my head reminding me that I could do something, but motivation is an exhaustive resource and I just couldn’t muster enough to sit down and do what needed to be done to get everything up and running. The primary issue I had with motivation was the paralysis that comes with only having limited knowledge of web design. It’s for this reason that I decided to just install wordpress, grab a generic, free theme and then customize that to my liking. I’ll always tinker around with the back end stuff to learn more, but this enabled me to get something up and jump the motivational hurdle I was banging my head against for months.

I miss the experience of creation. I miss the feeling I’d get after sitting up all night and typing up an essay for a course in university. I miss the feeling of publishing some freshly processed photos after wandering the city with my camera for hours. Creation is important to me and I hope that this website will taunt me with its need for content. My intent with this website is to not only be a repository for my thoughts and images, but also an attempt to motivate me to write and photograph more. I won’t be as strict as to implement some sort of update schedule, but I do find that I have constant discussions with friends about certain topics I have passion for and these discussions are fertile ground for me to rub a few of my ideas together until the spark appears.

This website’s utility will primarily be for my own usage. Sure, people will possibly read it, but that’ll only be a secondary concern. I always do love when people help me with my ideas though, so if people want to comment on things then I’m always open to it. The goal will always be to have a place to publish my work, whether it be photography, articles covering a topic I think is important or maybe even work that’s “scholarly” with citations, but I’m not entirely sure where I’ll take things. I don’t want things to be too formal though. I imagine too much formality and necessary preparedness would be a detriment for me to regularly create content.

My aim will not be too formal in format but it’ll never result in me randomly posting funny youtube videos or cat pictures. I mean, I like that sort of stuff just as much as everybody else, but this won’t be the place for it. I’m actually taking an easy way out of my initial deluge of content since it’ll be old photography categorized by theme, but I imagine the exact date when I’ve created something isn’t important to its value. It’ll allow me to remove the Lorem ipsum filler posts I put up during design at any rate.
